Sometimes, the list of male enhancement supplement ingredients features super-fancy terms like Rhaponticum carthamoides, for example. Anything written in Latin does tend to look quite scientific. The truth of the matter is that something simple called maral root hides behind the complex phrase.
What exactly is it and how does it affect male enhancement efforts? Keep on reading to find out.
What Is Rhaponticum Carthamoides?
Maral root is a traditional Siberian herb that has long played an important role in traditional Russian medicine. For many decades, it has been used to speed up the recovery after illness and help people get back to a good physical shape.
In addition, Rhaponticum carthamoides has been recognized as a sexual enhancer.
The ingredient isn’t the most prominent one and you will not find many male enhancement supplements featuring it. Still, researchers claim that maral root could be quite promising.
More work and clinical studies will definitely be needed to understand its active ingredients and effectiveness. Centuries of traditional medicine, however, suggest that the plant could be an excellent addition to every male enhancement formula.
Maral Root And Male Enhancement: The Claims, The Myths And The Truth
As already mentioned, the first claim is that maral root can be used to improve the physical shape of an individual who has suffered an illness or someone who would like to bulk up faster. So far, solely animal studies have been done to test the claim. These studies, however, reveal something quite interesting.
Rats that were given Rhaponticum carthamoides supplements saw an increase in grip strength by 18 percent in comparison to a control group. The estimated human dose that will produce a similar increase in power is eight milligrams of the extract per kilogram of body weight.
There is no evidence that maral root has an androgenic effect, as far as hormone levels are concerned.
In terms of boosting the male libido, the herb seems to have a lot of potential, as well. There was a human study performed but the volunteers were given rhaponticum carthamoides alongside tribulus terrestris and eurycoma longifolia jack.
The three ingredients together contributed to an increase in ejaculate volume, sperm cell concentration and they also produced a libido boost. Libido enhancement was set to about 20 percent from the baseline level that was estimated in the beginning of the experiment.
As you can see, there isn’t an awful lot of evidence pertaining to the effectiveness of maral root. It’s much less studied than popular ingredients like fenugreek extract and horny goat weed, for example.
Still, giving a maral root supplement a try is a good idea, especially if the product features other high quality ingredients alongside this component.
Dosage, Side Effects And Other Considerations
If you are taking a supplement that contains maral root, stick to the daily dosage that has been recommended by the manufacturer.
Because the ingredient isn’t the most popular one out there, you will find it difficult to get information about the recommended dose of maral root alone. To be on the safe side, talk to a doctor before you begin supplementation.
This is especially true for the individuals dealing with a medical condition and the ones that take pharmaceutical products.
Several studies suggest that maral root could potentially interact with a wide class of medications. A few of those include anabolic agents, antibiotics, anticoagulants, erectile dysfunction meds, immunosuppressants, hormonal agents and drugs targeting cardiovascular health.
If you are taking such medications, you will need to be extra-careful with maral root.
A number of studies carried out in Russia suggest that taking Rhaponticum carthamoides as a performance enhancer does not lead to side effects. If you are using it for the first time, however, you may want to start with a minimal dose to establish your tolerance.
Men who don’t experience side effects and health issues can gradually begin increasing the amount.
